# sdnog Community

sdnog started as an idea between Sara Alamin and Hiba Abbas, to create an environment where the technical people in Sudan could co-ordinate, and communicate amongst themselves. Both Sara and Hiba had been participants at other [NOG](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Network_Operators%27_Groups) events, and had admired the spirit of participation amongst the technical community, and felt that this was missing in Sudan, and that they could do something to help fix and improve that.

While the idea grew from discussions between them, today sdnog belongs to the Internet community in Sudan. It's made up of participants from the private sector, government and regulatory sectors, educational sectors, as well as many international participants, all working to further the SdNOG goal's of improved communication amongst the Sudanese technical community, both inside, and outside Sudan.

sdnog is divided into two functional units:

- Activities Team: Responsible for organizing all sdnog events, writing reports, and performing the technical work necessary to keep the sdnog infrastructure operational.
- Volunteers: Community members who are interested in assisting with logistics and the organizing process during events.

And, of course, the community, which is largely the good people on our [mailing lists](https://lists.sdnog.sd/mailman/listinfo/SdNOG) 😊

# sdnog Story

#### How to setup local Network Operator Group

sdnog team highlight the best practices and steps to establish a local Network Operator Group (NOG) from the first idea to planning and holding the first event, based on the experience of establishing SdNOG; The Sudan Network Operator Group. To begin planning for establishing your local NOG, ask yourself the following questions

- Why do you need a local NOG?
- What are the vision, mission and objectives of the group?
- What will be the activities of the group?
- How can you meet these goals?

Answering these questions successfully will give you a clear action plan on how to establish your local NOG.

The following document demonstrate the required steps, [Esta](https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cV9ht-zdm0rmv5fv0PqaKjinNuBQf3Au)[blishing Local NOG\_SdNOG Experience](https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cV9ht-zdm0rmv5fv0PqaKjinNuBQf3Au)
